Since 2023, the Wright Memorial Chapter has sponsored the annual Rafi’s Amigos Golf Outing, hosted by retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Rafi Rodriguez. This event serves as a fundraiser supporting a exclusive one-day Air Camp experience for Junior ROTC cadets in the Greater Dayton Area.
Air Camp provides participating cadets with hands-on exposure to aviation and STEM disciplines through a series of practical modules, including soldering, flight simulators, drone operations, and aircraft engine assembly. Each cadet also has the opportunity to fly with an instructor pilot, offering a firsthand introduction to aviation careers and leadership in aerospace.
In 2025, the Rafi’s Amigos Golf Outing raised more than $28,000, enabling the Wright Memorial Chapter to support a one-day Air Camp for 40 JROTC cadets from Bellbrook High School, Beavercreek High School, and Fairborn High School. Funds were also used to purchase new drones and additional training supplies to enhance the Air Camp curriculum.
To date, more than 120 JROTC cadets have participated in this exclusive one-day Air Camp, reflecting the Chapter’s continued commitment to developing future leaders and advancing STEM and aviation education in the region.
- AFA WMC works with local JROTC Senior Aerospace Science Instructors (SASIs ) to determine and select deserving cadets. Currently, two $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year.
- Cadets submit scholarship applications to the local in February of each year. Presentations are often made at the JROTC Awards Ceremony held at the end of the school year
